The original indian population of the Andes have traditionally worshipped ancestors/ancestor's mummies, and during the Spanish conquest, they took to hiding the mummies in small cave-like structures they build. It's very, very flat and looks exactly like ice and snow - but it's salt. It was a sea once, a long time ago, and there's small islands in the area, remains of the coral reefs in the pre-historic sea.
